Four Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) oxygen tonnage plants manufactured by Perth-based Oxair Gas Systems have been deployed to Western Australian mining operations. The equipment addresses safety concerns by eliminating hazards from high-pressure gas cylinders and bulk cryogenic liquefied gas while improving operational economics.

The systems extract oxygen directly from air using approximately three kilowatts of electricity per 100 cubic feet of oxygen produced. Each PSA unit generates roughly 2,072 kg of oxygen daily. The equipment can be customized for outdoor or covered installations and includes staff training for calibration and maintenance.

Key benefits include a turn-key on-site oxygen generation solution, seven-day-a-week reliable supply, typical return on investment within three months, lower energy consumption than alternatives, and improved safety profile compared to cylinder-based systems.

David Cheeseman from Oxair states: “Technical advances are transforming the sector all the time and innovation in autonomous underground mining is accelerating the pace of sustainable solutions.”
